Create the timetable

Unlike in school, there is no longer a predefined timetable in the economics program at the University of Freiburg. To create your personal schedule, use (a) the study plan, which you can find on the respective study program page, and (b) the electronic course catalog, where you can find times, locations, and further information about the courses under "Wirtschafts- und Verhaltenswissenschaftliche Fakultät" - section "Wirtschaftswissenschaften".

Registrations and exams

At the end of each semester, the exams for the courses take place. There is a period for final exams and a period for make-up exams. Online registration is required for the exams. You will find the link and the period for this after the start of the lecture period on the pages of the Examination Office for Economics.

Registration is required for examinations (online) and for events in the area of "Berufsfeldorientierte Kompetenzen" (usually online in the central course catalog).

Registration for lectures, exercises and tutorials is also required via HisInOne prior to the start of lectures. An enrollment is not an examination registration, i.e. an examination must also be registered for courses that have already been taken. Instructions explain how to register and deregister for courses.

Informationen for the first semester

General informationen

Lectures begin in the first week of the lecture period (semester dates). In the winter semester 2021/2022, lectures will start on Monday, October 18, 2021.

It is recommended to complete 30 ECTS points per semester. When planning your study plan, you can use the study plan as a guide. Please also be sure to observe the specifications in the examination regulations as well as the information on the creditability of the courses in the module handbook. These documents and information can be found on the respective page of M.Sc. BWL PNPM resp. M.Sc. VWL.

Event assignment

To participate in lectures and exercises, participants register directly via the registration procedure in the university information system HISinOne. For participation in seminars and courses with limited numbers of participants (block courses, PC pool exercises), it is usually necessary to apply/register with the corresponding chair and this often takes place before the start of the semester or lecture.
The registration period for lectures and exercises starts on 01.10. for the winter semester and 01.04. for the summer semester. Seminars can be booked directly with the respective chairs via their website. Courses can be taken without obligation and can be cancelled at any time. They do not appear on the grade list. There is no obligation to attend the courses. Please note that taking a course does not constitute registration for an examination! If you would like to take the exam, you must register separately during the registration period for the exam (see below).

Exam registration

Please note that you are not automatically registered for exams. This requires a separate exam registration within the exam registration period.

Useful links

Contains a lot of important information for the beginning of your studies in Freiburg.

This brochure will help you to familiarize yourself with the university's IT systems as quickly as possible at the beginning of your studies. It shows you how you can effectively organize important processes in your studies, such as communicating, organizing, researching, and much more, through the use of information and educational technologies.

The Studium generale and the Colloquium politicum have as their central goals the promotion of interdisciplinary dialogue and the synergetic networking of specialized knowledge about an increasingly complex world. The program is divided into three parts: The scientific events of the Studium generale and the Colloquium politicum invite you to analytically "look beyond your own nose" with lectures by Freiburg scientists as well as renowned guest speakers from Germany and abroad, while concert events as well as our course program with a small but fine selection of courses in the field of music and art as well as guided tours around the University of Freiburg provide a balance to the mental work in studies.

At the Language Teaching Institute of the Faculty of Philology you can learn many languages, for example Chinese, English, French, Italian, Korean, Modern Greek, Persian, Portuguese, Swahili and of course German. Specialized language courses, intensive courses and exam preparation complete the offer. The courses are open to all students, staff and guests of the university as well as to the interested public.
Small course groups and intensive supervision by qualified and motivated, predominantly native-speaking teachers, as well as the possibility to deepen the acquired language skills in the language laboratory, guarantee a high level of learning success.

The "Akademischer Filmclub an der Universität Freiburg e.V." - or aka-Filmclub for short - was founded in 1957 and is thus one of the oldest student film clubs in Germany. We are an association recognized as a non-profit organization that aims to offer the students and staff of the University of Freiburg and all those interested in film in Freiburg a varied and challenging film program at affordable prices at the university.

We, the student council of economics, represent the interests of the students of our department internally and externally. Each member of the student council enjoys the responsibility for his or her tasks and also fulfills general duties. Motivation and commitment form the basis of our cooperation, in which we live openness and tolerance. Therefore, we organize various events such as the orientation period, sports tournaments, the student council award and others. In addition, we take on university political tasks and act as a mouthpiece between students and teachers.
We are always happy to welcome new faces!

The student representation is the organization that - consisting of all students - stands up for their interests. A representation of explicit student interests is especially important towards the university - be it your institute, your faculty or the rectorate itself - because the students are mercilessly underrepresented in all university bodies and that, although we make up the largest status group at the university!
In addition, the mass of students positions itself through the student council on general and socio-political issues, as well as on local, Freiburg-related issues.
