Types of courses
There are 3 different types of courses:
Vorlesung (Lecture):
- Content of the course is presented by a lecturer
- Regular attendance is not monitored
- Registration for attending a lecture is not necessary, but registration for examinations are necessary
- Written exam at the end of the semester for acquiring ECTS-points
Übung/Tutorat (Exercise/Tutorial):
- Presented by assistants or tutors
- Usually various small groups
- Registration not required (exceptions possible)
- Revision and extension of the covered topics of the same lecture
- Completing exercises, preparation of the exam
- Generally optional but recommended
Seminar:
- Small groups (12-20 persons)
- Active student participation expected
- Early registration at the respective professorial chair
- Attendance required (generally a few meetings)
- Submitting a paper (scientific essay) and oral presentation for acquiring ECTS-points
BOK-courses:
- Small groups (12-20 persons)
- For Bachelor students
- Language of instruction: German
- Cross-disciplinary courses
- Early registration at the Center for Key Qualifications
- Attendance usually required
- The assessment methods highly differ from submitting a paper, oral presentation and/or written exam for acquiring ECTS-points
