The Master of Education will be newly established for the winter semester 2018/19. As a consecutive Master's program to the polyvalent 2-major Bachelor's degree, this combination replaces the previous state examination.

The Master of Education Economics is the second part of the teacher training for the Gymnasium teaching profession. The completion of this Master's program qualifies the student to enter the preparatory service. The study of economics at the University of Freiburg prepares students for the school subject "Economics, Career and Study Orientation (WBS)" at general secondary schools. It is not a business education course of study. The degree does not give access to the preparatory service at vocational schools or to the subjects of the business profiles at vocational schools.

General information on the structure of the teacher training program, scope of study and components can be found here.

Information on courses in WS 21/22 from the PH directory can be found hier.

M.Ed. Wirtschaftswissenschaften: Study objectives and contents

In contrast to the polyvalent bachelor's degree, which has a high proportion of subject-related subjects, the master's degree program in teaching at the University of Freiburg focuses on educational science subjects. While this portion comprises 35 ECTS, the two subjects each have 17 ECTS for subject-specific science and 10 ECTS for subject-specific didactics.

One focus in the Master of Education in Economics is on linking the three areas of subject-specific science, subject-specific didactics and educational science. Students should experience a coherent course of study that prepares them for professional practice, which also represents a close interconnection of the three areas.
For economics, for example, this means that economic models and theories are treated controversially and that this controversiality is taken up and reflected upon in subject didactics courses. The Master of Education enables prospective teachers to address this controversy in the classroom and to engage in discourse with students.

The curriculum is based on the standards of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in Baden-Württemberg. The curriculum takes into account subject-specific scientific and didactic content as well as cross-cutting competencies such as digitalization and media literacy.

An overview of the curriculum of the Master of Education in Economics can be found in the study plan.
