Application

The application period for the Erasmus places is every January. The places are usually given for the winter semester. However, in individual cases, there may also be exchanges in the summer semester. 

Current application period for exchange places during the academic year 2024/2025 (WS 24/25 and/or SS 2025):

December 15th, 2023 - January 15th, 2024.

Please submit the following forms electronically and by e-mail to erasmus@vwl.uni-freiburg.de (in a single pdf file, compressed down to a size of max. 2 MB):

1. completed application form >>Download

2. curriculum vitae

3. current transcript of records (Leistungsübersicht). Exception for first semester Master students: please send your Bachelor's transcript

4. letter of motivation (max. one DIN A4 page): describe your personal and academic motivation for an exchange semester

5. if applicable: additional qualifications, language courses, etc.

You will typically receive a confirmation within 2-3 days that your application reached us .

Other department applications: 

In general, applications are also possible under certain conditions, as the Department of Economics pursues the objective of enabling a maximum number of students to stay abroad. However, only those vacancies are allocated which are not claimed by students of economics. Since the bilateral agreements are usually only indirectly between the universities and directly between the subject areas, a binding commitment from the Erasmus coordinators of the partner universities is necessary. This results in the following procedure:

1. Please inform yourself about our partner universities

2. Contact us about the vacancies of your desired university for passing you a contact address.

3. By using this address, you can inquire at the partner university by e-mail whether students of different departments are accepted.

4. Attach an expression of the reply as a binding commitment by the partner university to your application documents and send it to erasmus@vwl.uni-freiburg.de

5. After checking the documents, we will offer you an exchange place. In addition, you will receive the necessary forms and information on how to proceed.

6. Since we can not allow for the examinations performed by applicants of different departments, please check with your departmental coordinator if your credits will be approved.
