During your stay

After you have arrived at the partner university and already settled down a bit, there are some things you should keep in mind and what is to be considered organizationally:

1. Erasmus grant payment

  • The Erasmus grant payment is expected to be transferred to your bank account at the beginning of November. You will receive it as a single payment for the whole winter semester. If you stay longer, you will receive a second payment at the beginning of the summer semester. At the end of the academic year, "residual funds" are still distributed to all students of the year. There is no claim to this, so you should not "plan" this money.
  • The amount of the Erasmus grant depends on the country group of your partner university as the cost of living in Europe differs significantly. The countries are divided into three categories (May 2022):
  • 1st Country group: Funding 600 EUR / month
Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Ireland, Liechtenstein, Sweden, Norway,  Luxembourg
  • 2nd Country group: Funding 540 EUR / month
Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain
  • 3rd Country group: Funding 490 EUR / month
Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, North Macedonia, Turkey

Top ups

  • For participants in need of additional support: 250 EUR/month
  • This applies to students joined by their child(ren) abroad, students with a certified disability rate of 20 or suffering from a chronic illness, which imposes increased costs when going abroad, students from a non-academic household and employed students.
  • For Green Travel: 50 EUR one-time and up to 4 additional travel days

2. Learning Agreement and Change Form

  • You submitted a Learning Agreement before you started your semester abroad. It is likely that changes in your study plan will occur during the first few weeks.
  • As soon as you decide which courses you are actually attending, complete the Section "Changes DURING THE MOBILITY" in your LA. Have the change form signed by the departmental coordinator of your host university and send it to us by e-mail.
  • If your host university uses other forms or requirements, then those of the host university apply!

3. ECTS points and Transcript of Records

  • The Erasmus program expects you to reach 30 ECTS per semester. Please follow these guidelines. If you earn significantly less points, you should contact us at an early stage to discuss the next steps. Your examinations abroad will be certified upon completion of your stay on the so-called "Transcript of Records". You must present this in Freiburg after your return to complete the Erasmus requirements as well as the approval procedure of your credits.
  • Erasmus does not specify the field of your study abroad. This means that the ECTS you receive for language courses or courses from other departments can also be part of the Erasmus requirements.

4. Confirmation of stay

  • At the end of your stay abroad, you must present a confirmation of stay, which certifies from when until when you have studied at the partner university. This confirmation of stay must be signed by the partner university. Some universities use their own forms, otherwise you can use the form of the University of Freiburg. We do not need a "proof of arrival", which certifies that you have arrived at the partner university. However, you should keep this form just in case.

5. Experience report

  • You will also be asked to submit an experience report after completing your exchange semester. This will also be a benefit for future exchange students. For this, you have a long time, but there might be some points that are important/interesting in the first weeks of your stay that you want to keep in mind for your report.

6. Problems and difficulties

  • If you have questions, difficulties or wishes, please contact us or the local coordinators.
